I was eight when I had the first out of my body experience that I can clearly remember.
We were on a field trip to a water park and were allowed to go on this long slide. I had and still have basic swimming skills though I can't really swim. I don't so much have a fear of the water as it is a fear of drowning.
The lifeguard assured all of us that we would be fine and no harm would come to us. The water was shallow so all we had to do was stand up and our heads would be above water.
In order to play in the pool you had to go on the water slide. I wanted to play in the water so I up I went to the water slide. At first it was fun sliding around in the green tubes but soon it felt dangerous as if it were going faster.
I don't remember being dropped in the water when the slide ended but I remember the girl who landed on me who couldn't swim. As she couldn't swim she was on top of me trying to keep her head above water.
I don't remember her getting off of me. When I left my body it felt as if something had kicked me. I never have forgotten the feel of that "kick."
I "saw" myself on my side going down to the bottom of the pool. I "saw" the headline of the newspaper for the next day.
The same thing that knocked me out of my body knocked me back in. I felt something strong grab my ankle and jerk upwards. When I looked down here was nothing holding me.
My head broke the surface and the hands started pushing me towards the end of the pool when I heard the day care instructors shout at me to get over.
I was pulled out of the pool and lead to the eating area where I was told to stand in the sun until I dried. I could hear the teachers talking saying I had marks on my body but they couldn't figure out who or what they had come from. I over heard them say I was under long enough to drown a person and they were amazed I was still breathing and without any type of brain damage.
All I can make of it is it wasn't my time.
