They've narrowed down the strain of bacteria that has caused the infection. She's on the medicine to kill the infection. The problem is they've got to get her heart rate down as it's currently 130 per minute and can cause heart failure.
Mom is understandably quite scared and worried.
Dad's terrified but won't admit to it.
I can truthfully say having your heart beat at 130 beats per minute is not a pleasant experience. I have asthma and during one treatment my heart rate was at that for close to six hours. At the end of the day my ribs were in agony and I thought I'd start flapping my arms and flying like a hummingbird.
Edited to add:
Dad wrote a quickie e-mail saying if all goes well Mom will be out of the I.C.U. soon but still on those massive medications for a while.
It's still unknown if they'll do a second round of chemo.

70 bpm is about average for heart rate. i know that because my dad had to have a pacemaker when his heart rate was staying around 40. 130 bpm would scare the you-know-what out of anyone. i hope she gets stable enough to get out of icu soon. Im sure she feels that way too!

Damn. I think I might've spoken too soon.
Her heart rate shot up to 171 and the doctors came running in. They ordered Dad out and are working on Mom right now to get her heart rate down.

Thanks.
Dad says Mom looks better this morning. She had a reaction to the platelets. We don't know what exactly caused or how it happened as the doctors haven't said yet.

The only thing I know is that she's stable and gets her hip drilled tomorrow. We have to wait until Tuesday to learn if there's more chemo involved.

Hope everything went well today for your mom. The hip drill sounds very painful.

Hope everything went well today for your mom. The hip drill sounds very painful. Mom said the day after is the worst. After that it's not so bad. The doctor will give strong pain meds and relaxers about an hour or so before the procedure and then give multiple locals to the patient so they hopefully don't feel it.

We got the results back for the cancer test. She's negative! They're currently still treating her for fungal pneumonia and are checking the rest of her organs. I still don't know if they'll do a bone marrow transplant yet.

If all goes according to plan she'll be out by the end of the month. Last I heard she's got a kidney and heart scan due today.
A lot of chemo patients will have fluid stored in their bodies as a side effect of the treatment so they want to make sure it's all gone before releasing her.

Mom goes back in to get a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow.
She's home for today and while she's too pooped to pop she's alert, eating, and drinking.
The doctors are talking about doing another bone marrow transplant but want to wait until her body is healthy enough to take the transplant.
